Shop 52 Denver - Thirteen: {Pome}

Hello there! It's time for our final Shop 52 Denver post for the month of February! That means it's GIVEAWAY time!!! YAY!! I'll get to that in a few minutes. First let's take a look at an incredibly charming shop located on Gaylord Street (in the same neighborhood as Silk Road, The Paper Lady, and The Tended Thicket---all of which I've spotlighted in previous posts). This, my friends, is Pome!

Let's just say they had me at the trendy dress form decked out in an apron! CA-UTE!

And who can resist an old fashioned candy counter?!?! Not me! Remember Rain-Blo gum, Lemonheads, Sugar Daddy, Jawbreakers, Candy Cigarettes---my friends and I used to go crazy for this stuff when we were kids! Ahhh...the memories!

Check out this FABULOUS selection of ribbon!! (And yes...those are licorice super ropes hanging on the hook on the right hand side of the photo! HA!)

LOVE LOVE LOVE the old fashioned cash register and service bell!! Wouldn't those make fantastic stamp images?!?!

These felted flower pins are ADORABLE, and I think they'd make BEAUTIFUL embellishments for a card!! It would turn the card into a card/gift combo!!! Hmmm...making a note to venture back to Pome and pick some of these up *wink*!

These bags are created from old PVC banners that were once used for marketing and/or advertising! Such a cool concept and incredible way to recylce banners that would otherwise end up in the trash!

LOVE the homespun feel of these stitched canvas notebook covers!

Whimsical artwork is displayed throughout the store as well.

And check out these reusable sandwich bags---LOVE the polka dots and color combo!

So...how did you like your virtual visit to Pome?

As promised I have a GIVEAWAY! To enter, just leave a comment on this post telling me what you liked the best about Pome! For additional chances to win, you can also comment on my previous Shop 52 Denver posts for the month of February (I've linked them to the end of this post to make it easy peasy for you!)! That means you can have up to FOUR chances to win!!! You have until Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:59pm (mountain time) to comment. At that time, I'll take all of the comments from the month of February and randomly draw ONE winner!

Here's the prize:

The vintage clothespins were purchased at Pome. The stamped muslin bag contains four block print cards, which could easily be turned into fabulous tags or embellishments for cards or other paper projects. I purchased those at The Paper Lady (spotlighted HERE). The ribbon was purchased at a store that I'll be introducing you to in March!

Isn't that a SUPER FUN little prize package!!! It's the least I can do for all of your sweet comments and continued support of the Shop 52 Project!!!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope your week is off to a FABULOUS start!

Little Owl Family

Hi there! My husband and I are going to a couples baby shower this afternoon for our friends who are expecting their first baby in April! So, I thought I'd pop in really quickly to show you the card I made for them.

The invitation suggested that each couple bring a children's book for the baby's nursery, so we are taking along one of my very favorites: Little Hoot.

It's a really cute story about an owl who wants to go to bed at night (like all of his friends), but his parents insist on him staying up all night because he's an owl! HA!

I wanted my card to go along with the owl theme, so I created a little owl family using DeNami Design's Owls Stamp Set PF32. I also used Jen Del Muro's most recent "Sketch For You To Try":

I handstamped the plaid strip using the Three Line Border N128 and the polka dot background using Medium Polka Dots N136 (both from DeNami Design). The woodgrain behind the owls is from Papertrey Ink.

Hope you're having a fun weekend!!! Thanks for stopping by today!

Shop 52 Denver - Twelve: {Seven Cups}

Hello there and welcome to this week's installment of Shop 52 Denver!!! This little treasure is not only a shop but an experience. Please welcome to the spotlight...Seven Cups!

From the outside it may look like any number of local tea or coffee shops, but when you step inside...

it's as if you just stepped through a secret passage into the Far East. The sounds of Asian music and a trickling fountain provide a sense of calm. And the decor is among the most intricate and finest I've ever seen. Every detail is tended to. Just look at this close-up of one of the carved doors in the front room:

Seven Cups is Denver's first traditional Chinese tea house. Their aim is to not only serve premium teas, but to educate their customers about Chinese tea and tea culture. The name, Seven Cups, comes from a famous ancient poem about tea. Click HERE to read the poem.

When I arrived at the tea house I received a warm welcome from Rebecca, one of the staff at Seven Cups. The tea house offers a very large selection of tea, and at first glance the menu can seem a little overwhelming. I LOVE tea and know that my preference lies with black teas, so that was at least a starting point. Rebecca was extremely helpful in assisting me with my tea selection, describing the flavors of various teas and even allowing me to smell the tea leaves. I decided to try a pot of the Gong Fu Yunnan Black Tea. It was heavenly.

I enjoyed my tea while taking in the atmosphere...

and reading a book. For me, there is something so comforting and relaxing about drinking tea. The feel of the toasty mug between my hands, the smell of the steam rising from the mug, and the combination of warmth and flavor in every sip. Ahhhh...pure bliss.

After I finished my second pot of tea (I know...I TOLD you it was heavenly!), I browsed around a bit. These tea cups, pots and accessories were created by Joe James, a local artist. Beautiful!
(The photo is a little blurry because the lighting was really dim in this area of the tea house.)

Tea pots and tea sets in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and styles also fill the wooden shelves at the front of the tea house creating a magnificent display.

Functional AND decorative.

How I'd absolutely LOVE to own one of these. Especially this one:

Incredible detail.

Seven Cups also sells their tea in bulk packaging to go. All of the teas are personally sourced from farmers in China and most are organically grown.

Here's a closer look:

I couldn't resist taking a package of Gong Fu home with me, but you probably figured as much, right??? *wink*

Did you enjoy your tour of Seven Cups? I hope so! I definitely enjoyed my first visit and will be sure to visit them again in the near future.

GIVEAWAY:  At the end of February I'll be giving away some goodies from a couple of the shops spotlighted in my Shop 52 Denver posts!! To enter, just leave me a comment letting me know what you enjoyed the most about Seven Cups!

Thanks for stopping by today!!! Have a FANTASTIC day!

Think Green

Hi there! It's Product Spotlight time at DeNami Design! Today we are featuring the Lucky Irish Stamp Set PF44, a perfect little collection of images for the upcoming St. Patrick's Day holiday!

The thing I LOVE about the little petit four stamp sets from DeNami Design is that they are so versatile! For this card, I decided to have a little extra fun and added the little hat (from the Lucky Irish Stamp Set) to the froggy. (Hey...he's green, so I figured he'd probably be a fan of St. Patrick's Day, right?!?!) Then, I used the shamrock and four leaf clover images (also from the Lucky Irish Stamp Set) to handstamp my own patterned paper! So simple and lots of fun!

I made the sentiment using the Tiny Alphabet stamp set from Stampendous!

So...what do you think of my creation?

Are you Irish? Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? Would you like to see more ideas about what you can do with the Lucky Irish Stamp Set? Click HERE to head on over to the DeNami Design Blog where my fellow DT girls are sharing some super creative ways to use this set!!

Get Whale Soon

Hello, blog friends! It's time for a brand new challenge at DeNami Design!!! YAY! This time around it's a color challenge (navy blue, lime green, and white):

Here's my take on the color combo:

I featured the adorable Whale H83 and Get Whale Soon F202 sentiment from DeNami Design! I LOVE paper piecing this little guy/girl!

The navy and white polka dot strips are fabric tape that I purchased from the Tinted Mint months ago and have been hoarding (it's just so stinkin' cute---I don't want to run out! HA!).

The buttons are lime green but for some reason want to look more yellowish in my photo. They're from my bag of Tutti Fruitti Boutique Buttons (DeNami Design). Have you ever purchased a bag of these buttons? It's like receiving a little bag of treasure!!! You'll find buttons of all sizes and shapes---round, square, glittered, striped, flower-shaped, etc. I found a FISH-shaped button in my bag of Tutti Fruitti buttons! It's so much fun just digging through the bag to see what you'll find! Makes me feel like a kid again!

I hope you like my card and are inspired to play along in the DeNami Design Color Challenge! Head on over to the DeNami Design Blog for all of the details and to see more inspiration from the incredibly talented DT! I can't wait to see what you create!!!

Shop 52 Denver - Eleven: {Tattered Cover}

Hello there! It's time for our next stop on the Shop 52 Denver tour! Today we're visiting a very charming book shop called Tattered Cover. They have three locations in the Denver area, but the one in Historic LoDo is my favorite! It's housed within the restored Morey Mercantile Building. The combination of the beauty of this old building, its antique furniture, wooden shelves loaded with books, and a tea/coffee shop make Tattered Cover a very special place. On rainy days or lazy Sunday mornings my husband and I LOVE to take a little field trip to Denver to hang out here. We buy some tea/coffee, grab a seat among the bookshelves and read or browse through magazines. I've always felt like there's something so comforting about being surrounded by shelves full of books.

Here's what you see upon entering the shop. LOVE the remnants of the old warehouse---the beamed ceilings, the hanging lights, the old hardware, the old wooden floors, the exposed brick walls.

There's plenty of seating throughout the two-story shop---antique tables and chairs, overstuffed chairs, and sofas invite you to relax for a bit.

When I took these photos (last Saturday), Ree Drummond, the Pioneer Woman, was visiting Tattered Cover!!! She held a short question and answer session and then autographed copies of her books. Unfortunately I didn't know about this until we walked into the shop and by then there were already well over 250 people in line and the event room could only seat 244. But, the shop was kind enough to hook Ree's microphone up to the shop's speaker system, so we could listen in on what she was saying.

This section of books is all about Colorado and the west. Don't you LOVE how they include the cowboy boots, old ranch sign, and historic photographs as part of their display?!?

Tattered Cover frequently hosts author talks, book signings, and other events free of charge. This display shows Ree's new book and the February Calendar of Events, which is also available on-line.

The shop also has a wonderful children's section. Here's the entrance:

A closer look at the entrance (lovin' the exposed brick) and the life-sized Judy Moody:

Here's a cozy little seating area within the children's section. Such a great spot for kids to spread out and browse through books or for adults to spend some time reading with their kiddos.

Another part of the children's section:

And check out these old school desks! The book sitting on top of this desk is one that I purchased for my friend who is due to have her first baby in April. It's called Little Hoot, and it's a really clever story with fantastic illustrations!

Shelves and shelves full of books.

I'm an avid reader, and there are so many books on these shelves that I've added to my reading list!

And look who I found among the cookbooks!!

I hope you enjoyed our little peek into this fabulous book shop! Leave me a comment and let me know what you liked the most. I love hearing your feedback!

At the end of February I'll be having another GIVEAWAY!!! Your name will be entered one time for each comment you've left me on my Shop 52 Denver posts this month! That means if you leave a comment on each of my Shop 52 Denver posts for February, you'll have FOUR chances to win! YAY! The prize will be something SUPER FUN from one of the shops we've visited along our Shop 52 Denver adventure!

Thanks for stopping by today!
