40th Birthday

On a recent visit to Paper Source in Denver I was drawn to one of their samples where they heat embossed an arrow image and then colored in the non-embossed parts of the image with Sakura Souffle Pens. Naturally I went home with a pack of these pens and couldn't wait to try them out. I thought this technique would be a fun one to incorporate on an extra special birthday card for my super sweet friend, Tricia, who turns 40 in a few days.

The inside says: Who's turning forty?

"WTF" is one of my all-time favorite sets from CAS-ual Fridays Stamps! So perfect for 40th birthday cards as well as 50th birthdays and belated birthdays too.

I started by stamping the dotted border image in VersaMark ink five times onto my focal panel. I heat embossed the dots with Queen's Gold embossing powder (Ranger), colored in the open dots with Souffle pens and allowed them time to dry. The ink from the Souffle pens puffs up a bit, which looks awesome with the embossing. Here's a closer look:

I'm so happy with the results! Looking forward to using this same technique with other images in my stash!

My layout is based on Kim's fabulous sketch for the most recent Freshly Made Sketches Challenge:

...and I'm also entering this into the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge: Anything Goes:

Thanks for stopping by today! I know it's been a bit quiet on my blog for the past couple of months. We've been having LOTS of FUN traveling and hiking...and I made 165 invitations for my cousin's wedding, which is coming up in late September. I'll share a bunch of photos soon!
