Hello, blog friends!
Today is an extra special day because TODAY I'm kicking off a brand new feature on the DeNami Design Blog called Chickie Couture!!!
As
many of you know, I absolutely love dressing up DeNami’s Large Chickie image in
“outfits” for special occasions. Oh, I’ve had him/her decked out as a baby in a
diaper, a leprechaun with a shamrock, a princess with a magic wand, playing in
fall leaves, celebrating birthdays with party hats and cupcakes, and the list
goes on. The goal of Chickie Couture is to show all of YOU how much fun it is
to dress up this chickie image using your crafty supplies and a bit of creative
imagination! Each month I’ll choose a theme and dress up a chickie (or two)
accordingly using a variety of supplies and some hand-drawn elements. Then,
I’ll show you how those dressed-up chickies can be used on your craft projects.
Lets’s
get started!
Since February is the month for L-O-V-E, I decided to venture to PARIS,
the City of Love, for my Chickie Couture theme!!! And without further ado I’d like to introduce you to
Jacques:
I
started by stamping the Large Chickie image in black ink onto a piece of white
cardstock (Note: Hang on to this for future use.). I placed a piece of
lightweight printer paper over top of the stamped image. The paper needs to be
thin enough so that you can see the chickie image through the paper. Now using
the underlying chickie image as a guide, I free-hand drew the French beret and
mustache. Then, I cut the beret pieces and mustache from the printer paper. I
used these pieces as templates (hang on to these for future use), traced them
onto colored cardstock, and cut them out. I stamped a scarf from Making Frosty
Friends (Lawn Fawn) onto red cardstock and cut it out. Then, I stamped the
Large Chickie image onto pale yellow cardstock, added some color with markers,
cut him out, and dressed him up. FUN!
I
decided to incorporate Jacques into a card layout. Since he’s French, he’s
obviously quite the romantic, right?!?! So…I gave him a flower from Spring
Flowers 1 and added a Rectangle Word Bubble that has him saying
“I love you” (in French, of course). I wanted to give the card a post-card
feel, so I added the French-colored stripes in the background and a ledger
patterned panel created with the straight lines from Basic Borders 1.
A little baker’s twine, an ordinary paper clip, a splash of patterned paper,
and VOILA! There you have it!
Supplies:
Stamps:
Large Chickie I60, flower from Spring Flowers 1 CL-GD003, Rectangle Word BubbleF179, Three Line Border N128, straight lines from Basic Borders 1CL-BD004
(DeNami Design); scarf from Making Frosty Friends (Lawn Fawn), Smitty’s ABCs
(Lawn Fawn)

(Tsukineko), Tuxedo Black Memento (Tsukineko), Vivid! Ultramarine (Clearsnap),

Copic Sketch Markers

Gold (Papertrey Ink)

Black Copic Multiliner Pen; Paper Clip
But
of course, we’re not quite finished. Dressing up these chickies is addictive,
not to mention Jacques needs a friend! So…I created Jean Luc:
Creating
Jean Luc was super simple because I already had my beret “templates” from
creating Jacques. I followed the same process I described above, only this time
I added a mustache from Hot Concoctions (Paper Smooches) and left off the
scarf.
I
printed off a free clipart image of the Eiffel tower, die-cut a Polaroid frame,
and adhered the clipart within the frame. I stamped Bonjour over the tower
image and dressed up the frame with a strip of washi tape and a button threaded
with baker’s twine. Then, I added Jean Luc to complete the picture! As you can
see I used the frame as a focal point on a CAS card, but you could also use it
as a tag!

Large Chickie I60 (DeNami Design), mustache from Hot Concoctions (Paper
Smooches), Smitty’s ABCs (Lawn Fawn)
