Photo Tutorial: Happy Monsters Card

***This is my second post for today. Scroll down to see my first attempt at using watercoloring on a card!

Hey there! If you follow my blog the above card probably looks very familiar. It was featured on the DeNami Design Blog on March 3rd and since then I've had several requests for instructions on how to make it. So, I put together a little step-by-step photo tutorial.

First, you'll want to make a template for creating the angled focal point. That way you can keep the template handy and create more cards with this same layout without having to do all of the measuring each time.

Making The Template:

Step 1: Cut a 4.25" x 5.5" cardstock panel. Along the top edge of the panel, measure 0.75" from the left and make a mark (see "a" in photo). Measure 1" from the right and make a mark (see "b" in photo). Along the left edge of the panel, measure 1.25" from the top and make a mark (see "c" in photo). Along the bottom edge of the panel, measure 2" from the left and make a mark (see "d" in photo).

Step 2: Using a ruler or straight edge, find the point where marks "a" and "c" intersect and make a mark (see green "x" in above photo).

Step 3: Connect point "b" to the green "x." Connect point "d" to the green "x." (see photo below)

Step 4: Cut along the lines you just drew in Step 3. Now you have your angled focal point template. It should look like this:

Now you're ready to make your Happy Monsters Card!

Making The Happy Monsters Card:

Step 1: Trace the template created above onto white cardstock. Cut out. Erase pencil lines.

Step 2: Stamp image and sentiment. Color with markers. Add a touch of glitter to the headlights.

Step 3: Trace the template again onto patterned paper. Extend the two angled edges by 0.25" (Tip: Flip your template and your patterned paper over to do the tracing and extending. That way no pencil lines will show on the front side.).

Step 4: Cut out along the edges that are 0.25" wider than your original template.

Step 5: Adhere the two angled pieces together and tie twine around the bottom.

To finish: Make a 4.25" x 5.5" card from cardstock. Adhere angled focal panel to the card front using foam tape and lining up the right side of the focal panel with the right edge of the card.

And there you have it!

I hope this photo tutorial was helpful and not too confusing. If you have any questions feel free to send me an e-mail at: petrellas@hotmail.com.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog!

Have a GREAT day!!!
